Mutalisk Rush
Submitted by Kak0i-Y0kunai
This strategy is one of the most popular and succesful Zerg rushes out there. When unexpected this rush is a game winner. The one drawback to this rush is that, because you are teching up to Mutalisks, your base is not well defended. The building goes as follows:
--Send your four Drones mining (click each Drone seperately and send it to its own mineral patch) and create a Drone using your starting 50 minerals
--Send your Overlord to scout out your enemy's location
--Keep creating Drones to mine until you have 9, then create an Overlord
--While the Overlord is building you should reach 200 minerals, at that point make one of your mining Drones form a Spawning Pool
--The Overlord should then finish, and now make another Drone to mine
--Keep making Drones for mining until the Spawning Pool is 75 percent done, at that point send one of your Drones to create a Creep Colony near your Drones and Spawning Pool. When this Creep COlony is done, morph it into a Sunken Colony
--Create a couple more Drones to mine, and once you reach 300 minerals have a Drone create a Hatchery
--Create more Drones while the Hatchery is building, and when you reach 100 minerals create an Extractor
--While the Extractor builds create an Overlord, and more Drones to send out mining
--When the Extractor is complete send three Drones (even if they are mining minerals) to mine Vespene Gas
--Evolve your first Hatchery into a Lair, and create around 3 more Drones to create Creep Colonies which you should then morph into Sunken Colonies
--Create more Drones for mining and 2 or 3 Overlords while the Lair is evolving, but be sure to have enough resources to create a Spire when the Lair is completed
--When the Lair is completed, create a Spire with one of your Drones on mining duty
--While the Spire is building create enough Overlords (if any) to allow you to have at least 6 Mutalisks (that's 12 supply points) created immediately after the completion of the Spire
--Do not, however, spend to many resources on Overlords for you owill need those resources for Mutalisks
--If you do not believe you will have 500 or 600 minerals when the Spire is completed create 1 or 2 more drones to speed up the mineral mining process
--When the Spire is completed create as many Mutalisks as you can, and send them into the back of your opponent's mining area
--Create a Queen's Nest right away, and evolve your Lair into a Hive, and then your Spire into a greater one (do this while attacking)
--If your opponent sends any infantry units at your Mutalisks (Marines or Hydralisks) have your Mutalisks attack them if they are in smaller or equal numbers to your Mutalisks
--If there are more marines than Mutalisks by 2 or more kill some miners and retreat. If the amount of Hydralisks exceeds your amount of Mutalisks by any number, kill some miners and retreat
--While you attack you must build more mutalisks at your base constantly
--If you are forced to retreat do not give up the rush
--Attack again with reinforcements, and target their infantry/turrets/colonies/cannons
--If they have more than one colony or cannon you need a lot of Mutalisks. If this is the case you may need an expansion with a geyser
--If they have 2 turrets, 12 Mutalisks can destroy them easily
--If they have bunkers do not attack. Marine filled bunkers absolutely slaughter Mutalisks
--If the attack is failing retreat, and build more Hatcheries
--Get a greater Spire as fast as you can (if you dont already have one) and create Guardians
--Your opponent may not even have air units because of the havoc you ohave caused, so immediately attack with your Guardians and back them up with Mutalisks for air defense
--If they have Wraiths send Overlords for detection
--Even if they do have air units they will have very few, and Mutalisks in higher numbers should be able to destroy them while the Guardians destroy miners
--It is vital that you attack miners with the first wave of Mutalisks that you sent!
--Even if you must retreat after killing the miners you are most likely going to win. You can create reinforcements to sne dat the enemy, and if the enemy creates reinforcements then they can't mine.
--This rush is extremely worthwhile of use and often works like a charm.
--As a side note: Never use Devourers without Mutalisks. It is one of the most vital things that you bring Mutalisks along with Devourers. The reaosn being that the acid spore effect adds one point of damage per spore to every attack against the unit. This makes a Mutalisks attack against units with 9 spores (the maximum amount) deal 19 damage, followed by 14 damage, followed by 11 damage. Its as if you have 3 Mutalisks for every one. This is also the only way Zerg can defeat Valkyries.
