Goliath Use
Submitted by Merfolk
Goliaths are a very underestimated unit in SC. An expert player can look at a Goliath and say 'HA! My civilian can do more damage to ground units!' Goliaths can actually be used in many different ways. They are fairly cheap, are the best surface-to-air in the game, and when upgraded can be the relentless assault you need.
Here are good Goliath uses:
1. The trick.
This mainly works when facing Protoss, because the specialize in air-to-air. Early on, if you have an ally, say 'I'll go mass cruiser'. The Protoss suckers will get hordes of air units, and Goliaths own Protoss air. A handfull of Goliaths can take out a Carrier army.
2. The stampede.
Simple. You get 3 machine shops and pump Goliaths. Fully upgrade them and attack. A single Goliath does nothing to a ground unit, but 30 of them do. You relentless assault will swallow anything in it's path. Even Zerglings can't stand up to it. Zealots are no match. Goliaths do 16 damage to ground when upgraded. 30X16=480. 480 damage per second spread amongst all ground threats. NOW who can't do anything to ground units?
3. Impenitrable defense.
EZ. 2 detectors per 7-10 Goliaths. No air will get past you. If a guardian comes, move your defense 3 feet and it will die in .03 seconds.
I think I have proven my point. Thank you and good hunting.
CreepColony's Opinion: Uh...goliath ground attack is 15 damage when fully upgraded....
