Reap This Whirlwind's RPG Topic
First, lets start with some questions.

#1. Do you need any help?

Answer: Yes. Help on this is greatly appreciated. I do not need any actual help making it, but I could use suggestions for things. Here is a list of things I would like some suggestions on.

#1. Names

- NPC Names
- Item Names. (All types of items. Weapons/Armors/Generic)
- Town Names
- Skill/Spell Names
#2. Story/Plotline
- Sidequests anybody?
-Any minions of the villains?
#3. Music and Sprites/Images
-Any sprites you think could work? If so, PM me a .zip file of any and all sprites you have.
-Have some cool music? Send it to me, and I'll consider it!
Are you a spriter and can actually create sprites? If so, send me some of your creations and you will be greatly praised.
-Tilesets. I would greatly appreciate it if you have some tilesets from games somewhere laying around on your hard drive. Just send me a tileset sheet, and make sure each tile is 32x32 pixels. If possible try and put them on a transparent background.
#4. Quests and Extras (Hidden Elements)
- Minor and major quests? What do you have to accomplish?
- Quests you need to complete to move in the game?
- Hard sidequests?
- Hidden Characters?
- Hidden Items?
- Hidden Dungeouns?

#2. Is there a playable demo?
Answer: Yes. It can be found at the bottom of the page.

Just double click it, and it'll run just fine.


#3. I found a glitch/bug! How do I tell you about it?

Answer: PM me the details about it and include what you did and what happened. A screenshot would be really helpful as well.

#4. Is there an expected release date for the full version?

Answer: No there is not as this is a big project. It could be years down the road before I get around to a full version, but rest assured it will be completed sometime.


#5. I'm too lazy to PM you. Is there any other way I can contact you?

#6. I can has cheezburger?

Answer: No. I make them for a living so you can't have one. =P

Right now, I do not have a decent name for my RPG so it will be called Nikorano until I make a suitable name for it. If you don't like it, then 1 of 2 things can happen.

Because of this just being a demo, there will not be any apparent story.

Thats ok. Just play through the game. I am just doing this to eliminate any bugs in the game right now.

Are you in the Hexagram in the Inn? You can only save inside those. Nowhere else.

you have to be dead in the center of it to save (tried outside of it didnt work)

and is there a real need for your script to trigger going over the hexagram (popped up like 3 times while i was trying to get out of it lol)

Maybe make the location of it smaller? so it's less annoying -_-

and am i supposed to go outside of the town you start in? if not, needs to be made and if so, HOW? lol

I'm willing to help with ideas ^^

Yeah, I kinda messed up on the events around the Hexagram. That was my fault and forgot to change that before I released the new version.

And to leave town, just go down the stone tile path. I could have it so you could leave town anywhere, but that would require lots of events and that would actually lag up the game which I do not want to do.

I will probably release one more updated demo because I think I forgot to change some save game settings in the 2nd town, so expect one in a couple days.

i have a few ideas myself, i have always had ideas for a RPG myself, of course im just trying to make a movie right now, it will be less harder than this, but i need ideas too =( plus ive never done FLASH before zzz. Anyhow, i can gladly assist. =) if you could kindly PM me the elements (forces, such as

Wind,Earth,Fire,Water,Dark,Light,etc)
the item ranking (Bronze, Copper, Iron, etc)
I had multiple ideas for NPC Character names, possibly some normal character names, you know it. so, if you need help, just PM me, i can gladly assist you with ideas, plus, i know quite a few ideas for spells, sprites, animations, etc =) PM me sometime Reap, i can DEFINETLY help XD EDIT:Oh, quests too, lots and lots of sidequests added XD

Well of course the basic method for making a person leave a town is to set up an event for them to go from one area to the next. However, in rpg maker, you're only allowed to make this type of event (or any event for that matter) the size of the character itself. So you would have to make tons of events all around the town just for the chara to leave it from any spot.

However, I've tried this in a couple of my towns before and it doesn't lag up the game. Depending on how big the game will be though, you may get varied results, but I'm not entirely sure on that just yet.

Hey Reap. Looks good. Just a few things to point out. The things that need to be fixed are in highlight while just my opinions are not.

Town Issues

- The hexagon aside from the already pointed out problem should probably only have the message appear once per use per visit to the building. I'm sure you know how to fix this, but just in case not, have the message's condition be a switch and after it says it toggle the switch, and then toggle the switch again as Jade leaves.
- The Weapon and Armor shops refer to the town as Salhame. The Item shop refers to the town as Salhama
- The edges of the town aren't blocked by anything, you simply can't move out. I'm assuming this will be dealt with later on, but this should have some kind of doodad in the way as to point out that you can't leave that way, otherwise it seems like there's just that good old invisible wall.
- Are the treasure chests supposed to turn from Blue to Red once opened?
- The pub has a lot of open room when you enter. Maybe people or doodads should be placed there?
- The sidewalks occasionally become bigger than just one tile. I find this awkward. It would make sense with dirt, but not really with stone.
- The shadows for the buildings don't match up. Try to decide where the sun would be on an analog clock for example to determine how to handle the shadowing. For example, from the starting building I get the idea the sun is in the 9 or 11 range. While the Pub is surely 9 and the building to the right of that seems to be 7 or 8. The weapon and armor shop's shadow doesn't make much sense at all. The shadow at the exit of the Inn from inside doesn't make sense either.
- I believe it was in the armor and weapon shop that there was a map on the world. If the land on the map isn't in your RPG at all, it wouldn't make much sense for it to be there.
- In the house at the bottom of town near the exit with the two floors, there's a lamp on the desk that is on. It's very sunny out, there is no need for such a lamp.
- The smoke coming out of the chimneys seems a bit higher than the chimney, so it appears odd from a distance. Also, Jade appears to walk on top of the smoke.
- There are many people in the pub but only two residences. Assuming that these people all stay at the inn or live in the two houses, it still seems rather "under-homed". If you don't feel like making more insides to buildings, you can always make buildings and block the entrances with two people talking or something of that sort.
- The path to the inn ends with completely different stones. I don't know if that was intentional or not. Just happened to notice.
- When you exit Salhame you are two tiles away from the village, not one. When reentering, you appear near the center of town instead of the entrance.
- The boy who gives you free Mystic Waters basically gives you an infinite supply which you can then sell for 7 rel.
- The Antidote in the Item Shop reads, "Cures poison.". The rest of the items that cure Status Effects have the name of the status effect Capitalized. "Cures Blind." and "Cures Silence." are examples.
- Is there any faster way of walking around the town?

Character and Skill Issues

- Learned at level 2, Mega Slash costs 4 MP. You have a maximum of 3 MP at level 2.
- Mega Slash does crap for damage when you can finally use it at level 3. I was doing around 36 damage to a Trap Plant, then the next battle used Mega Slash on a Trap Plant and it only did 20 damage. Even at level 1 I was doing around 20 damage with the normal attack.
- Learned at level 4, Stab's description says "...Ignored the target's defensive abilites." instead of "...Ignores the target's defensive abilities.". This skill also does crap for damage.

Battle Issues

- The monsters certainly should be rebalanced obviously. Trap Plants can kill you pretty quick, especially for the first monsters you encounter. Of course, this can be combated with the trick above to buy armor, but that's cheating.
- At the end of the battle it says #Rel Earned. There is no space between the # of Rel and the word Rel.
- The Mune Munes in the forest give rather low EXP consider their high HP and rather high evade.
- When you fail to escape, it says "It was unable to escape.".
- The Blue Mune Mune is far too powerful for you to escape or to fight due to Jade's low magic defense.

Storyline Issues

- In the Forest when Jade hears someone laughing, the second part of his dialogue goes
"I know I just heard somebody laughing... but..
who?"
It looks like space ran out, the but.. should be moved to the next line with an additional . to make it three .'s.


I do like the appreciation to the small details though. Like in the house near the exit having the same colored foliage on the window sills as from town view and from inside the house or the doors opening as you touch them. The bright colors in the town and the cheerful music work well together. It makes it very peaceful. Anything added to the town for the beginning should have that kept in mind. Maybe with all the flowers and such more than one butterfly should be added. I also like the character's graphic (with a little bit of messing around with RPG Maker back in the day I always liked that one best) and I do look forward to playing this game some more.

If you need any help with testing just let me know. I'll try to work it into my schedule .

I do like the appreciation to the small details though.
